The Clicquot firm was founded in 1772 and was taken over by Nicole-Barbe Ponsardin in 1805. The veuve Ponsardin was tragically widowed in 1805 from Franзois Clicquot after only 7 years of marriage and her name graces every bottle of the house Champagne to this day.
